Retail Building May Go Solar
06/09/2009
By Ben & Heidi Andrews
A retail building in the Pearl District could soon have a solar array installed on its roof.
Bryan Shull has submitted a proposal to install 60 photovoltaic solar panels on the rooftop of the Meddle Building, located at 307 N.W. 10th Ave., in Portland. Building tenants include Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream, Cupcake Jones, Teardrop Lounge and Bishop’s Barber Shop.
The panels would be arranged in groups on the roof to avoid shadows from existing rooftop mechanical equipment. The panels will project 15 inches above the rooftop at the most and will be screened from adjacent streets on the south and east by an existing parapet wall. The building owner is Orrick Joint Venture.
